π Bragging Rights
Youβre a brand with a podcast. Thatβs worth bragging about. Hereβs why:
βIβd like to thank the academyβ¦βΒ
Making great content is absolutely an award in itself, but it is nice to get that lil nod from your peers, right?Β The Webby Awards, the internetβs highest honor, are now open for entries and there are five new categories for podcasting this year. Talk to your producer about submitting this year. The next deadline is December 16.
π‘ Sharing the Genius
Our favorite inspiration to help you be great at podcasting:
Downloads do not define success. Weβll say it again. Downloads πDo π Not πDefine π Success. Our own Rachel Downey wrote this enlightening piece about the Metrics of Performance for your Podcast. Read it and read it again. Where else can you measure success for your podcast?
Podcasts on TikTok? Yup! This month, the team at PodNews reported that TikTok seems to be preparing to launch its own podcast app. What can this mean for you? More discoverability, better compensation and more ways to make an impact. πͺπΌ
Our Friends at The Podcast Host recently shared some interesting insight into how the rise in cost of living is affecting the podcast industry. While advertiser demand is down, listenership seems to be up for those looking to cut costs at home with their streaming services. And with the big platforms (YouTube, Twitter, the above-mentioned TikTok) grabbing the podcasting audience, itβs only going to continue to grow.Β
π Sandbox ItΒ
Ideas for you to implement this week. Literally. Try it once and see if it works.
π€³πΌ We wrote a lil piece all about Using Instagram to Promote Your Podcast after attending a nice but not incredibly helpful seminar on the subject. You know those where you are like, ok cool, glad I already knew all of that and here is what I would add to it. Check out this piece penned by SYGβs own Amanda and Katie and feel free to put it to use right awayβ¦ like yesterday. Some questions you may haveβthat will be answered:
How do I choose the best type of account for my podcastβPersonal? Company? Build it from scratch?
Stories or Reels? What are each best used for?
Hashtags and when is too many?
For more secrets and insights, talk to your producer at your next strategy meeting.Β
π Mike Check
No, itβs not a typo. Itβs a quick audio tip from our favorite (albeit a little grumpy) audio engineer, Mike.
Hosts are often guests on other podcastsβappropriately to continue to build thought leadership and for personal podcast promotion. However, weβve seen it multiple times, when you are a guest on someone elseβs podcast, please use your podcast mic and headphones, NOT AirPods or your laptop mic. Trust us, the cleaner audio youβll get with your own mic is 10x better. We want you to sound great everywhere. πͺπΌ
π Pro Tips from the Pro Pros
We want to help you level it up and lean into that thought leadership that you naturally create in hosting your podcast. Here are some tips from our pro pros (professional producers, that is!)
Think you donβt have anything to add to the cacophony of LinkedIn posts out there? Think again! Your voice has valueβBUT, it definitely takes some intentionality to make sure youβre creating thought leadership content that wonβt get lost in the algorithm. Hereβs a simple formula for crafting your own intentional (sustainable) thought leadership content plan:
Message: What message do you care about the most? If you havenβt already crafted some sort of mission statement for yourself, this is a great opportunity to do so. That way, your message can always be tied back to your mission - thus, intentionality behind every post!
Medium: How do you want to spread your message? Take stock of your strengths: are you a stellar writer? Awesome externalizer? Love creating video content? Pick the medium that feels most natural to you, and run with it for a consistent amount of time.
Channel: LinkedIn. Instagram. TikTok. Twitter. Blog. YouTube channel. SO many different places to post your thought leadership content. Our tip: pick one and go all in for a set amount of time (60 days is a great starting place). The more consistency you create, the more clearly patterns and data will emerge around which types of content work best for your audience.Β
